What do the Black & Decker 400W 230V jigsaw and percussion therapy have in common? Nothing as far as we're concerned.
But that's as far as some people go to tap into the ever-expanding market for percussion therapy. Since the early 1980's, percussion therapy has been a common tool in combating pain associated with sports and fitness. That makes perfect sense. Instead of taking time out of your work day, driving across town and getting someone to beat your body back into shape, you could do it yourself, in the comfort of your own home. The only problem was that they were bulky, not portable and so noisy.
Enter the wireless handset. The solution to all our problems! Now everyone could carry their own device and use it wherever they needed it, whether it was at the gym to activate their muscles or to relieve aching shoulders after a day at the office.
Only they didn't do it. Why? Because these machines came at a price that made them unaffordable for the average gym-goer. Also, they were still usually very noisy and sure to cause a scene if pulled out in the office cubicle.
So people got creative. A quick Google search yields countless results on how to turn ordinary, cheaper power tools like jigsaws, saber saws, and even car bumpers into a usable percussion therapy device by cutting off the blade and attaching a squash ball.
We didn't find that particularly appealing. Somehow we didn't believe that a jigsaw used on the back to relieve pain and tension would have the desired effect. And they are still very noisy. You will still cause a scene in the workplace. They are not designed for the sensitive structure of human muscles, but for sawing wood.
